Just like humans, dogs will change as they age. Dogs suffer the same health problems — loss of sight, hearing, arthritis, and diminished energy levels.
· Puppy stairs and ramps will help your senior dog climb on and off furniture and even the car. Staircases in the house should be gated off to prevent injuries.
· Check for vision and hearing impairment in your dog.
Fence off the yard to prevent injuries and wandering away.
· Practice good dental hygiene since tooth problems can cause pain and eating difficulties.
Keep the dog’s mouth and teeth clean by brushing or by using dental treats.
Senior pets should remain active and involved to stay healthy. Strong muscles support the joints that can be weakened by arthritis. Low impact activities like walking or swimming are best.
