Acute Vomiting in Pets: What to Do

Dogs and cats will vomit from time to time due to different reasons – such as food that upsets their stomach. A sensitive digestive system may also cause vomiting.

Key takeaways:

·         Vomiting that won’t stop is a source of concern and is referred to as acute. Nothing is left in the stomach except bile when vomiting.

·         Identifying the cause of vomiting is a complicated matter and vomiting may point to serious health problems, e.g. tumors and liver disease.

·         Take a sample of vomit to the vet to make a diagnosis of the problem.

If there is a lot of mucus, an inflamed intestine may be the cause. Undigested food in the vomit can be due to food poisoning, anxiety, or simply overeating.
