Among all things that a dog owner will keep track of, teeth may fall lower on the list of important things. Their worries might be the damage caused on furniture rather than caring for the pup’s teeth.
- Your puppy will develop two sets of teeth in their eight months of life. The first set will have 28 teeth whereas the second set will have 42 teeth.
- Puppies lose their first set of teeth at between 4 and 6 months to give way to the permanent teeth just like human beings.
- Regular dental care should include brushing the dog’s teeth and taking the dog to a vet for an oral examination.
Both Bannon and Reiter recommend letting the baby teeth fall out on their own, and advise against trying to pull loose teeth out. The teeth have very long roots, Bannon says, and pulling the teeth can break the root, leading to an infection.
