People love their pets. In the US, the American Pet Products Association reports that two-thirds of American households have at least one pet. Lots and lots of pets in the UK, too. But is a pet right for you?
- Everyone has their own reason for having a pet — and for some, it’s to help with feelings of isolation and loneliness.
- Pets come with costs. The American Veterinary Medical Association reported that the average cost of veterinary care per household was $375.
- When considering a pet, think about potential problems — family members allergic to animals, time involved in walking a dog, and compatibility with your children.
When it comes to adopting a dog or a cat, “you will probably have this pet longer than your car, your job and possibly even longer than your current relationship,” said Arden Moore, who hosts “Oh Behave,” a podcast on Pet Life Radio
