Why it works
VOHC Accepted for plaque control in dogs. An independent credential from the Veterinary Oral Health Council, not a marketing adjective.
Calprox® formulation. Petsmile's own calcium peroxide-based formula, developed by the makers of Supersmile.
Say Cheese flavour. A savoury taste designed for pets, so the paste becomes the treat that makes the routine happen.
Brush or apply. The manufacturer permits direct application to the teeth for pets that are new to brushing; brushing adds the cleaning action once they accept it.
No rinsing, no waiting. Safe to swallow in normal use; your pet can eat and drink straight afterwards.
Suitable for dogs and cats according to the manufacturer. The VOHC credential is listed for dogs.
How to use
Let your pet sniff and lick a small amount of paste from your finger so the taste comes first.
Over a few days, rub a little paste onto the outer surfaces of the front teeth with your fingertip while gently lifting the lip.
Put a pea-sized amount on a soft pet toothbrush and let your pet lick it from the bristles.
Brush the outer surfaces of the teeth at a 45-degree angle to the gum line, a few teeth at a time. Do not force the mouth open.
Aim for once a day, or at least several times a week. Consistency matters more than a perfect session.
Use the manufacturer's directions on the tube if they differ from the above.
Formulations can change. Always check the ingredient declaration printed on the tube you receive, particularly if your pet has a known sensitivity.
Tube size: 4.2 oz (119 g). Made in the USA. Sold in the UK by Pet Dentist L.L.C-FZ.
Safety and when to see your vet
For animal use only. Use as directed by the manufacturer. Do not use human toothpaste on pets.
Discontinue use and speak to your vet if your pet shows any reaction. Do not use on pets known to react to any listed ingredient.
Not a veterinary medicine. Petdentist® products are for daily hygiene and routine care of healthy pets and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
If your pet has bad breath that does not improve, bleeding or swollen gums, loose or broken teeth, visible heavy tartar, pain, or is reluctant to eat or be touched around the mouth, book a check-up with your vet.
Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place with the lid closed.
FAQs
Is Petsmile VOHC Accepted?
Yes. Petsmile Professional Pet Toothpaste appears on the Veterinary Oral Health Council's list of accepted products for plaque control in dogs (seal awarded 2011). The credential applies to dogs; the manufacturer markets the toothpaste for dogs and cats.
Do I have to brush, or can I just apply it?
The manufacturer allows direct application to the teeth with a finger. We recommend introducing a brush once your pet accepts the taste, because brushing adds the mechanical cleaning that toothpaste alone cannot.
How much do I use and how often?
A pea-sized amount once or twice a day on the outer surfaces of the teeth. Follow the directions printed on the tube.
Can my pet eat and drink afterwards?
Yes. The manufacturer's directions do not require a waiting period before food or water.
How long does a tube last?
It depends on the size of your pet and how often you brush. Most single-dog households find a 4.2 oz tube lasts one to two months of daily use.
What if my pet refuses the flavour?
Email info@petdentist.co.uk within 30 days of delivery with your order number and we will refund the toothpaste, even if the tube is opened. One tube per household; see our refund policy.

We use this toothpaste regularly on our Golden Retriever who is 12 years of age. One of his back teeth was covered in tartar and this toothpaste has removed it. He seems to quite like having his teeth cleaned. Over the years I have used other brands but have found this one gives the best results.
Have used other toothpastes in a pinch, but will always come back to this one for my dog. He loves the taste and it works! Can see why it's approved by the VOHC. Worth every penny and it lasts AGES.
This paste doesn't smell of anything really - Definitely no overwhelming fake meat smells to contend with.
Must taste good as my dog will eat it from the tube.
Non foaming.
Not abrasive.
Apparently the formula works just from the pets licking it, so you could alternatively smear a pea sized amount on a toy if you really can't get a good scrub on.
Note: No toothpaste is going to be able to remove well established thick plaque from teeth. Only a dental scale and polish from a veterinarian will do that.
Overall, what I can say is that from firsthand experience, my dog is now three and I've used this once every few days in one form or another (actually brushing his teeth or having him just lick it) since he was a pup and his teeth are spotless.
Our Westies teeth are looking good so far, hasn't removed all the yellowing but did not expect to so soon just stop any more appearing. The vegan formula is great for their allergies but they are not so fooled by the fake cheese flavour ! Maybe next time will select another flavour to keep them keen. Would recommend although not cheap, better than a trip to the vets ! Will definitely buy again.
Only been using the toothpaste for a few days but think I am already seeing a difference, Rosie's breath isn't as bad as it once was, hopefully it will continue to get better. So far very happy.
I can't say that my cats like the flavor. They do not dislike it, however it cannot be used as a treat or reward after pilling, like another toothpaste…
Hopefully it does help keep my cats' teeth clean!
Don't be put off by the price this toothpaste really works. .My dogs teeth are transformed since using this toothpaste. Very easy to apply my dog loves it reminds me every morning after his breakfast to clean his teeth because it tastes so good.Takes only 5 seconds to apply and works wonders no matter how bad your pets teeth.Saves a fortune on vets bills.
I have been using this toothpaste on my dog for 3 weeks and already seeing results. My dogs' teeth are in good shape generally, apart from one particular tooth at the back that shown yellowish tartar which the previous toothpaste could not get rid of. After daily application, now the yellowish colour is fading. Just remember to shake or squeeze the tube before use, as some separation of the paste do occurs.
Definitely seems to work, fussy dog doesn't mind it. I use with a finger "brush" to spread rub on. Expensive but does seem worth it. Make sure you shake/squeeze the tube before use as there canm be some separation.
Been using this a few weeks on my 11 year old English bull terrier who has had issues with her teeth and gums - this has really made a huge difference - a lot of money but the best results so far
My dog loves this toothpaste and gets excited when he sees the tube. He prefers the stick inside with and small foam head to a toothbrush. His teth were better after a few days.
I'm a vet and have been doing a lot of private research into dog toothpastes. Having seen so many dogs with foul mouths, I am determined not to let my pup's (well, she over a year old now) mouth go the same way. This toothpaste ticks so many boxes when it comes to good oral hygiene that I felt I had to to put my money where my mouth is. The dog loves the taste, and when she sees the tube runs to the stool where she sits to have her teeth brushed. I checked her mouth the other day and her teeth are pristine, (even though I'm lax at times and don't always remember to do her teeth daily.) I can't vouch for the long term benefits but I feel confident that with the same regime she will have fresh breath for many years to come...and avoid an anaesthetic for dental descaling. I especially love how Petsmile has antiplaque properties even when you put it on a chew toy - makes it ideal for those wriggly dogs who just won't stay still for tooth brushing.
Anyhow, in summary, this isn't a cheap product but it could save your dog from a costly dental under anaesthesia, plus the claims are backed up by the VOHC...so that all has to be good. I will be repurchasing.
I purchased this tooth paste initially as part of the combo pack with the applicator and have recently stocked up on this toothpaste. My dog seems to love the flavour and happily allows me to clean his teeth. A great product, a must for anyone who is into looking after their dogs oral hygiene.
Can't highly recommend this product enough. Have struggled to clean my dog's teeth with other toothpastes but she seems to love this one - making a task that was previously a nightmare to complete now so easy and quick. - fantastic
definately be purchasing this pet toothpaste again... i was dreading the thought of brushing my boys teeth but knew it had to be done ... they loved it !!!
My dogs love this stuff! They still do not like getting their teeth brushed but the fact they like the taste of this toothpaste means I have less of a struggle on my hands. Their breath has improved and the staining on their teeth has reduced. I know it is expensive but I will continue to buy it because of all of the above factors.
